Why Barrack Obama is making the right move on Cuba

I agree with President Obama on opening up with Cuba. Probably for very different reasons than why he is doing it. You might disagree and point out Che hated and killed black people and you’d be right. You might also point out all the firing squads and mass graves of Castro’s Socialist revolution. You’d be right. Many horrible things have been done in the name of “the greater good”. Whenever I hear the utterance of that term, it is always employed as justification of violence or threats of violence being used against a persons natural Liberty to peaceably make their own choices. It appeals to the worst element in mankind’s capacity to use violence and force to control others for the achievement ones own personal goals and objectives.

While the Castro’s, Che and many of their past and current actions are truly evil, what of the people that live in Cuba? Is our disgust, is the enemy of Liberty the people who are imprisoned by the Castro’s?

As a first principle, I regard all attempts to control and limit voluntary exchange as evil. If the people of Cuba wish to trade with the people of Florida or Texas or France or Alaska or Russia or whomever, why not? How do you or I gain a right to act as a 3rd party controller preventing two willing and peaceful people from trading? Simply stated, our embargo hasn’t kept one steak or lobster off the plates of the Castro’s. They live like kings off the people they farm in the name of the “greater good” regardless of our personal offense. I see no right, effectiveness or kindness in refusing an element of freedom to an oppressed prison population of a Socialist state.

As an aside, if they wish to be free from the slavery of their service to the Castro’s, it can only happen when they have something to be free for. It can only happen if exposure to glimpses of freedom and Liberty grows in them a desire to take care of business. By interacting with them, we can provide that encouragement and example.

No person has a right to control, limit or inhibit voluntary exchange between two other people. If we wish to be free, we must identify and reject those who claim a right to impose their choices on others by force.

Clearly, if you wish not to trade with Cuba or consume Cuban products or offer products to Cuba, I support you in your choice. I wouldn’t dream of using force to make you consume or provide services to anybody anywhere. I ask simply that you to consider conferring the same respect of personal Liberty to everyone.

President calls for review of “Stand Your Ground”.

Huffington post article: Obama Calls for Review of Stand Your Ground Laws After Trayvon Verdict

Obama: “I think it would be useful for us to examine some state and local laws to see if it — if they are designed in such a way that they may encourage the kinds of altercations and confrontations and tragedies that we saw in the Florida case, rather than defuse potential altercations,”

My HPO Remarks: “In order to have a more docile public, perhaps we should replace it (Stand Your Ground) with “Bend over and take it.” No Mr. president, requiring people to turn their back on a potential killer is like running from a dog, cowardice invites trouble. Only in a society where government owns it’s citizens can one rationalize government approved self defense. I own me.”

The Government Ought To……

“Every government interference in the economy consists of giving an unearned benefit, extorted by force, to some men at the expense of others.” | Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal

I’ve become a believer in a concept which seems radical at first. However, as time moves forward it is becoming more and more obvious. I am for the complete separation of government and economics.

Transcript from Richard Reid Sentencing: Judge William Young

Judge William Young’s Closing Comments To Shoe Bomber Richard Reid. Great words of courage and love of Liberty.

US District Court Judge William Young made the following statement in sentencing “shoe bomber” Richard Reid to prison. It is noteworthy, and deserves to be remembered far longer than he predicts. I commend it to you and to anyone you might wish to forward it to.

January 30, 2003, United States vs. Reid. Judge Young: Mr. Richard C. Reid, hearken now to the sentence the Court imposes upon you.

On counts 1, 5 and 6 the Court sentences you to life in prison in the custody of the United States Attorney General. On counts 2, 3, 4 and 7, the Court sentences you to 20 years in prison on each count, the sentence on each count to run consecutive with the other. That’s 80 years. On count 8 the Court sentences you to the mandatory 30 years consecutive to the 80 years just imposed. The Court imposes upon you each of the eight counts a fine of $250,000 for the aggregate fine of $2 million.

The Court accepts the government’s recommendation with respect to restitution and orders restitution in the amount of $298.17 to Andre Bousquet and $5,784 to American Airlines. The Court imposes upon you the $800 special assessment.

The Court imposes upon you five years supervised release simply because the law requires it. But the life sentences are real life sentences so I need go no further.

This is the sentence that is provided for by our statutes. It is a fair and just sentence. It is a righteous sentence. Let me explain this to you. We are not afraid of any of your terrorist co-conspirators,

Mr. Reid. We are Americans. We have been through the fire before. There is all too much war talk here. And I say that to everyone with the utmost respect. Here in this court, where we deal with individuals as individuals, and care for individuals as individuals, as human beings we reach out for justice, you are not an enemy combatant. You are a terrorist. You are not a soldier in any war. You are a terrorist. To give you that reference, to call you a soldier gives you far too much stature. Whether it is the officers of government who do it or your attorney who does it, or that happens to be your view, you are a terrorist. And we do not negotiate with terrorists. We do not sign documents with terrorists. We hunt them down one by one and bring them to justice.

So war talk is way out of line in this court. You are a big fellow. But you are not that big. You’re no warrior. I know warriors. You are a terrorist.

A species of criminal guilty of multiple attempted murders. In a very real sense Trooper Santiago had it right when you first were taken off that plane and into custody and you wondered where the press and where the TV crews were and he said you’re no big deal. You’re no big deal.

What your counsel, what your able counsel and what the equally able United States attorneys have grappled with and what I have as honestly as I know how tried to grapple with, is why you did something so horrific. What was it that led you here to this courtroom today? I have listened respectfully to what you have to say. And I ask you to search your heart and ask yourself what sort of unfathomable hate led you to do what you are guilty and admit you are guilty of doing. And I have an answer for you. It may not satisfy you. But as I search this entire record it comes as close to understanding as I know. It seems to me you hate the one thing that is most precious. You hate our freedom. Our individual freedom. Our individual freedom to live as we choose, to come and go as we choose, and to believe or not believe as we individually choose.

Here, in this society, the very winds carry freedom. They carry it everywhere from sea to shining sea. It is because we prize individual freedom so much that you are here in this beautiful courtroom. So that everyone can see, truly see that justice is administered fairly, individually, and discretely. It is for freedom’s sake that your lawyers are striving so vigorously on your behalf and have filed appeals, will go on in their, their representation of you before other judges. We are about it. Because we all know that the way we treat you, Mr. Reid, is the measure of our own liberties. Make no mistake though. It is yet true that we will bear any burden, pay any price, to preserve our freedoms.

Look around this courtroom. Mark it well. The world is not going to long remember what you or I say here. Day after tomorrow it will be forgotten. But this, however, will long endure. Here in this courtroom and courtrooms all across America, the American people will gather to see that justice, individual justice, justice, not war, individual justice is in fact being done.

The very President of the United States through his officers will have to come into courtrooms and lay out evidence on which specific matters can be judged, and juries of citizens will gather to sit and judge that evidence democratically, to mold and shape and refine our sense of justice.

See that flag Mr. Reid? That’s the flag of the United States of America. That flag will fly there long after this is all forgotten. That flag stands for freedom. You know it always will.

Custody Mr. Officer. Stand him down.

Should Government Pick Winners and Losers?

Licenses are an objection to Liberty. They stand in the way of voluntary exchange. To be free, you and I must be at Liberty to negotiate exchanges voluntarily. I ask you, what is wrong with Liberty? Check out this video and see if your confidence in big brother might be just a little shaken.

Makes you think a bit doesn’t it! I ask you, are you for Liberty? Seriously?

John Morse Recall Election in Colorado

liberty objector john morse
If your gun is stolen and used in a crime, he want’s to prosecute you! He want’s to limit teachers self defense options. He favors lamenting funerals over celebrating a hero. Recall Senator John Morse
200% of the signatures required to boot this Liberty Objector out of office through the recall process have been submitted. Bye bye John Morse, president of the senate and lead Liberty Objector in Colorado.

The Huffing Post: John Morse Recall Looms; Gun-Rights Activists Gather Double The Signatures Needed For Recall Of Colorado Senator

My public comments left with the story:

Let us cast this Objector to Liberty out on his ear. It’s the ideology of John Morse in their legislation for Colorado that one man can be held responsible for another mans evil deeds. It’s people like him that set up the situations where 20 children can get shot in the face un-opposed by even one lawfully armed and free citizen. He favors the current public school policy of lamenting funerals over celebrating hero’s. Lets let Liberty Ring in public schools. If Liberty were not obstructed by laws designating our public property non-constitutionally free places. (can you believe we stand for that!) then perhaps 4 or 5 of the school teachers would have been armed and this madman’s fantasy could have been avoided or greatly reduced. I am for celebrating hero’s over lamenting funerals. Let us ridicule the ideology which includes forced membership in the Church of Safety Through Weakness. Limiting our teachers and administrators to only running, hiding or fighting back with scissors is irrational, evil and just plain heartless. Do you know why it’s such a joke to go to a gun fight with a knife? Because it’s sooooo stupid. Let us end the tyranny these Objectors to Liberty have established on our public property. Lets us push this ideology back into the dumpster of history’s failed Darwin Awards to which it belongs. I am for Liberty, no apologies.

Is Capiltolism Humane?

Another great talk given my Milton Friedman. What are the results of various systems of government? This talk was given before socialism/communism in the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) had failed. 45 minutes.

Although not mentioned in the talk, it is also interesting to mention another failed socialist government. The NAZI party (NAZI translated from German is National Socialism) Socialism is used to gain control, complete central control of peoples, it seems so sweet at the onset, however it eliminates liberty and forces participation. To the hopeful central controllers, more important than what your day to day decisions are is who gets to decide. We are suffering from intrusions into every step of American life, how much water your toilet uses, which shower head you choose, and on and on, all for the “greater good”. Certainly, I am not saying Americans in favor of Socialism are Communists or Nazis, what I am saying is the peoples of Russia, Germany, Greece, Cambodia (Pol Pot) were entrapped by socialist ideals and all ended in failure. Literate Americans have the benefit of history in order to determine what is at the end of the socialists anti-capitalist path. We have the option of rejecting these failed ideals and avoiding the poverty and despair of Cuba, Russia, Germany and so many others. Some Americans make the argument that we can ignore history, that we never tried it fully and that’s why it will work for us, we are American’s after all. It seems a little aloof to consider oneself above history doesn’t it? One thing leads to another and so on, it is historic and undisputable, where it happens, it fails with sad results for everyone (except the ruling class).

Listen to Milton Friedman, he saw this in his own time. I wonder if he could have imagined we would have slipped so far by now? I think the answer is yes, he did imagine it, that is why he was giving these talks and warnings, trying to stem the tide of poverty and failure in socialist systems where the equality is sought and always achieved to an equal level of poverty for all of us.
