The Joe Nall Fly-In, which is hosted by the very generous Pat Hartness at his estate in Woodruff South Carolina is possibly the largest radio controlled model aircraft event found anywhere on the planet. And as a model aviation enthusiast I am captivated by the thousands of beautiful aircraft and have great admiration for the piloting skill of those who travel to the event from all over the world.

But for me it is the event itself which keeps drawing me back and each time I drive through the magnificent front gates at Triple Tree Aerodrome I soon forget about the twelve hour journey it took to get there. You see, for seven days in May each year, the Joe Nall Fly-In is our little slice of heaven on earth that we call home. A magical place where people of vastly different ages, religions, occupations, and wealth come together for a common cause and to forget about the stresses of life.

I could have easily filled my slideshow with pretty photos of model airplanes but in doing so I would have done a great disservice to those who have never experienced Joe Nall. Hopefully you will be inspired by my video and perhaps you could join our family next year.

OK, you all know me, I can’t help myself. I have to put up resistance to the Objectors to Liberty wherever they reside. The fact that you or I couldn’t offer to pay this film maker even $1 to get those aerial shots for us is an Objection to Liberty. What’s wrong with Liberty I ask you? As a society, we need to identify these people who want to control and hamstring us as what they are. There are forces at this very moment attempting to prevent the very video you just enjoyed along with other activities in our hobby. Let us reject their ideology of control and force wherever we see it. Let us reject the Objectors to Liberty. If successful, at the very least, we’ll have more great video’s of our country’s best events!!!!

Hear a recording of a real V1 Pulse Jet

Below is a video of a Dynajet running. I’ve heard these on control line models at the Dayton Buzzin Buzzards speed dash contest. They make the loudest sound I have ever heard in my life. Imagine this whirling around your head at 200mph!

And of course, no coverage of pulse jets would be complete without an amphibious kayak race against a world class Olympic athlete. I am wondering if this pulse jet was the last thing this athlete ever heard. No hearing protection!

Location: The Dayton Wingmasters are located behind Wegertzen Garden Center. Entrance to the area is through the Wegertzent Garden Center main gate. Another gate is at the entrance to the model airport area.

Access to the field: An access key is required. Obtaining and access key requires membership in the AMA. A fee is collected to offset the cost of maintainance, mowing and porta pottie expenses incured by the club. Membership in the club is not a requirement to fly at this facility, however, the club appreciates your memebership as support of the ongoing efforts. A membership includes access to electric.

Flying Hours: Monday thru Saturday 10:am to Dark, Sunday 12pm to Dark.

Guest Flying:This club is open to guest flyers at any time.

What you’ll find: Wingmaser Field is a beautiful site. The 40 acre field includes a 40′ wide by 440′ long paved and striped runway, heli flying area, control line circles, shelterhouse, nessasary room, nearby lake, picnic tables, 110v electric and 12v electric. Area around the runway is closely mowed and the area north of the runway is usually in good enough condition for grass strip flying. This is the area’s largest group with flying every weekend and many activities.

Special Notes From Dave: It’s always “Gentlemanly” to observe the AMA Safety Code as a baseline at any new field until all local rules, etiquette and customs are learned. Be aware some fields have routine full scale air traffic nearby, others very little or none. It takes time to become aware of all the special concerns and routines at any new flying field.
