This Software chip reprograms the model 109/109D and newer model 110 Deluxe Chargers to make them into a A123 lithium chargers. Now your Astro charger (previously mentioned models only!) is ready for A123 packs. Remember, after upgrade use it only for Lithium Ferrite Phosphate packs (A123 type chemistry). No other type cells should be connected to it.
Special Notes for 110D (NiMH and NiCad) charger owners: If your unit has a chip socket on the circuit board this chip will work in it also. If all your chips are soldered in, it's a no go. Even desolding the old chip and soldering in the new one does not work. If you have a socketed 110D and change it, be sure to re-label the front of the charger.
Here is how:
The #555 "A123 Version 1.4 upgrade micro chip is our latest software version (released Jan.2010) and is easy to install. Simply plug into socket on the circuit board for instant upgrade of your charger. Remove the four screws in the chargers face plate. Flip the charger over into the gray tub. Use needle nose pliers to carefully remove (wiggle upwards) the old chip. You may use a Popsicle stick to guide in the feet and press gently. The small notch on the chip should face the middle of the charger, not the edge of the charger. Inserting backwards causes no harm except you will see black squares on the display. Reinstall faceplate and screws. That's it, your done!
Notable features:
1. Cell count is locked in as soon as battery is detected.
2. Time out is increased from 1 hour to 10 hours.
3. Amp Hours are increased for 9.5 to 95 amp hours.
4. Now you can charge large packs in parallel.
5. Discharge stops at 3.0 volts per cell.
6. Charging stops at 3.6 volts per cell.
WARNING!!!!LITHIUM BATTERIES ARE A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. NEVER, EVER LEAVE THE BATTERY UNATTENDED WHILE CHARGING! ALWAYS CHARGE IN A FIRE PROOF CONTAINER. NEVER TOP OFF A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY. NEVER FAST CHARGE IF CELLS ARE LESS THAN 3 VOLTS. ALWAYS VERIFY AND MONITOR CORRECT BATTERY VOLTAGE AND CORRECT CELL COUNT. NEVER CHARGE IN A HOME, GARAGE, NOR A MOTOR VEHICLE.
