Slow Stick Wing Mount Set: Riser Lift & Perch Dihedral

Slow Stick Wing Mount Set: Riser Lift & Perch Dihedral

Tired fussing with the tiny rubber band pegs on the stock GWS mount? Wishing you had more or less dihedral? Want to raise the wing up and make a true high wing out of it? Maybe you need to raise the wing and make room for your camera? How about a Low Wing Slow Stick? You've found the parts!

Generally, as you add dihedral and/or raise the wing up you get more yaw induced roll. This is to say your rudder will be more effective. The stock dihedral is 12 degrees. Maybe you're looking for a flatter wing layout to help make ailerons more effective? Also, if you have ailerons, you wish for the yaw to be more pure yaw and less roll. All these parts are here to aid in your experiments.

Incidentally, you'll have to bend your wing tubes for these higher dihedrals. This isn't too difficult if you have reasonable hand strength, insert carbon rods to aid and pull around a corner like the side corner of a pine 2x4.

Select Wing Mount Riser Lift first: -1 is the low wing set moving wing below the stick; 0 is near or like stock; actually my 0 starts just a fraction higher than factory mount; 1"; 2"; and 3" (refers to "inches" higher than the my 0 mount).

Next, select the Perch Dihedral...Note, 24 degrees recommended for low wing risers: 0 degrees (flat); 5 (less than stock); 12 (stock); 16; 20; 24; or 55 for a whacked out 3 channel rolling monster.

Photo shown is 1" Risers and 16 degree Perch set.

Slow Stick Wing Mount Perch or Riser Only

Need repair parts? Get 1/2 a wing mount set here. The riser is the vertical leg set (4 parts) that fix the distance from boom to wing mount surface. The Perch sets dihedral angle, is the mount surface, rubber band pegs, and the horizontal parts that fit between the risers to form a box to slip over the boom.

Wing Mounted Main Gear Mount Kit

Wing Mounted Main Gear Mount Kit

Warbird Main Gear Mount. Most any WWII Theme model you build will need the main gear mounted to the wing in order to look right. (Can you believe what I'm suggesting? ;-) ) Shown here used on our shop Wart Hog theme model.

Like many of our parts, this one may be reconfigured easly by simply flipping parts for tail dragger or tricycle configuration. Tricycle shown. 3/32 Music wire (Part# KS506) was bent to shape, bend any height you want. Wire may come down from inside or outside edge of mount to allow for a variety of gear widths depending on the look your going for. Suggest wheels collars Part # DUB138 to hold your wheels on.

The Slow Stick wings and glass fiber rods support both front and back where we have it banded on in the photo. Takes landing loads quite well. The look generated along with your likely use of low wing moutning set and aileron kit (both available in this category) will have everybody thinking you must be flying some new just released super model.

Slow Stick Pusher Motor and Wing Mount Set

Slow Stick Pusher Motor and Wing Mount Set

Ever want to setup your bird as a pusher? Maybe you have a front mounted camera system and wish to remove the prop from your videos and photos. Mount is adjustable for down thrust over a nice range making an otherwise tedious trim adjustment easy. This mount was designed to be used as the wing mount also. If you wish to use only the motor mount without wing mount, that works well also. In a recent project (and I expect most people will) we used it as the wing mount system as well. It gives you 1" of wing rise which is popular already. Choose only your dihedral angle perches below. Good quality socket head fasteners are included.

Designed for use with props up to 10" using normal motor mounts. Mounts that put the shaft of the motor close to the stick like the 10mm Tower Pro Motor Mounts and the 20mm motor/stick mount setups tend to move the motor closer limiting the prop diameter to 9". If the entire motor body is above the motor stick a 10" prop will fit.

Special Note: It has been observed that this mount may be used as a forward facing (tractor) motor mount also. For under-boom mounted forward facing camera work, it is often desirable to raise the motor up to get the prop arc out of the photograph. This mount facing forward on the nose accomplishes just that while still allowing you to adjust for proper down thrust angle.

Slow Stick BIPE Wing Mount Set

Slow Stick BIPE Wing Mount Set Slow Stick BIPE Wing Mount Set Slow Stick BIPE Wing Mount Set

Slow Stick BIPE Wing Mount Set

Slow Stick Biplane made easy! Lots of us have wanted to try this but few have taken time to make all the special parts required. Now you don't have to make anything. Let's be clear, you only "thought" you had a "Slow Stick", you'll really have a "Slow" stick after doing this conversion. If you like backing up on a breezy day, you'll be moon-walking with 2/3 the breeze once you've doubled the wing area. A Biplane conversion also looks much bigger. What an imposing presence your new Bipe will have among the lesser endowed Slow Sticks at the next Fly-In you attend.

Like our mono-wing mounts above, you must choose the wing perches you want to match your desired wing dihedral. Our shop model uses 24 degree perches (as shown in the photo) and to me it feels just perfect. More dihedral gets you a more "active" roll function when you put in a rudder command. Conversion kit work just fine with stock dihedral (12 degrees) if you like but expect roll control to be soft. Choose the perch set that you think best matches the personality your going for in your new biplane.

Correct CG for this wing mount set is 5 3/8" back from leading edge of top wing. Note one strut set has an "F" etched in and this is the "Front" mount.

Many ideas are open for experiment and consideration. For instance many biplanes use a shorter bottom wing and at times the dihedral angle may differ slightly from top to bottom. Release your imagination and be creative.

The wing struts are an option listed on this page. Not required but aid in stiffening up your wing assembly and add a dash of "looks right" to your dog-fighter.

Wing riser spreaders (look like a letter H) are included with all the perch sets and are needed to complete the wing risers for all the mono-wing mounts. These parts are extra and discarded when you build the bipe setup.

There are no official instructions or diagrams. It only fits together one way. If the part fits, it goes there. Squeeze it all together fully, wick in thin CA from outside of square tube hole. The Y shaped perch sets (surface you mount the wing too) comes with little spreader pieces, looks like a fat letter I. These parts are for other wing mounts and discarded when building the Bipe setup. The front mount is the one that would mount the leading edges highest.

There are no other instructions than what is stated above, as it's way too simple for any more really. Read the above listing, it will give other info such as CG. Enjoy!

Custom Extension & Adapter, Vinyl Insulation

We can hand make extensions and adapters to almost any specification. Choose from drop down menus your preferences. Generally we size these by measuring from the back of each connector. So the overall length will be greater by connector shell length. Twisted wire can be adjusted slightly in length by changing the number of twists. We try to get within about 1/2" of your spec. Please order long enough to compensate for minor variance.

Note: 3,6,12,18,24,36, & 40" (3,6,10" Micro Lite) are stock machine made sizes and are lower cost, find them in the connector category to fit your specific brand. Check there first to see if any stock sizes will meet your needs.

Micro Lite: This type of wire is used most commonly in applications with small servos (.5 oz weight or less usually) in park flyers, foamies, sailplanes, DLG's and other models with low servo loads. You can save a bunch of weight eliminting beefy stock wiring from these smaller models.

26 Gauge Standard: This wire is what you find in most new radio sets and on most mid size to full size standard torque 4 screw mountable servos. This ribbon wire size is a good wire choice for those types of servos (and smaller) if the runs are 24" or less. Good for smaller servos in long runs such as sailplane wings and similar. For example, great for your 60" Cub but use 22 gauge if your outfitting a larger Model.

22 Gauge Heavy Duty: Use for all larger models and anyplace a high torque or digital servo might be used. Use for standard torque servos if your runs are very long (over 24")

Slow Stick 4mm T Tail Mount

Finally it's easy to convert to a T tail. Complete with washer plates. Glue to your stab and horizontal or use 4-40 nylon bolt/nuts in the pre drilled holes. May also be used for mounting verticals to the ends of your stab. Works with any 4mm foam. If using with stock Slow Stick parts, trim the top of the vertical down until you have a flat spot long enough for this mount. Comes complete with washer plates to prevent bolt damage to surfaces.

Slow stick parts come in both 4 and 5 mm. 4mm is .157" or pretty close to 5/32". 5mm is a little over 3/16" at .197". Measure your parts before ordering. One photo shows used as base for vertical fin which we mounted to center of wing for our twin tractor canard model in the shop.

Old School Model Works Polaris Kit

Jet-like looks and wide flight envelope make this design stand apart.

Had enough of the same old designs? Need a ship that is new and different? Look no further than our Polaris - unique, easy to build, and exciting to fly!

We've taken Bill Evans' original and brought it up-to-date.

Included are new, simplified building features as well as laser-cut precision and self-aligning parts to make this all-time favorite even better. For example, our exclusive Web-Lock construction makes building the wing panels a snap. Rather than the sheer webs being an afterthought, they are utilized during the build to properly space, position, and lock in each rib.

This type of design is commonly referred to as a Simitar. Though Simitars operate on the concept of a flying wing, they don't really look like a flying wing, nor do they appear to be conventional in nature. So, what makes them different?

First, no stall. Reduce power, gradually feed in up elevator, and as it slows down, the nose will automatically drop a bit, reducing the angle of attack; therefore, no stall. What makes this possible is the innovative ESA (Evans Simitar Airfoil) which is a semi-symmetrical reflexed design.

Next, the wide speed range. No matter how much power you put into a ship from the Simitar Series, it goes faster (no Dutch Roll). It also slows down to a crawl (the effect of no stall) and sets down like a hang glider.

Finally, a Simitar is directional in flight, in that it will remain in most any attitude it is set in. Once properly trimmed, point it in a direction, and rest assured, it will do as commanded.

Join the Simitar Squadron and become a Polaris pilot with a design that's very smooth-flying and graceful. Easy to build with pieces laser-cut from high-quality balsa and ply woods. When finished, the Polaris' typical Simitar characteristics give it no stall, a wide speed range, and it goes exactly where it's pointed. Our Polaris was independently reviewed by MBMrc. Check out their pre-flight video report.

Slow Stick Adjustable Camera Mount

Slow Stick Adjustable Camera Mount

At last a easy way to mount your digital camera to your Slow Stick boom. Our Camera Mount is loaded with form & function. Platform is large enough to fit almost any hand held camera. 4.2" long, 3.95" wide. It is slotted for Velcro One-Wrap and has 5 rubber band pegs on each end. Plenty of room for adhesive backed Velcro also. Mount allows adjustment axially around the stick in over a 90 degree arc. By repositioning the mount on the different facets of the boom any position around its 360 degrees may be set.

Another nice feature is the camera platform does not have to be glued to the supports. If used in this way, rubber bands are required (you'll probably use some to secure most any camera anyway) to lock the mount plate in its supports. This way you can remove the camera without undoing it from the mount platform plate. You may want to remove the camera to lighten your ship up for play or maybe you wish to change to an alternate camera for a special shot. Extra mounting plates are available for this purpose.

Want to get the sunset shot of the city (or mountains) with the wingtip in photo? This mount will make it possible. Aerial Photography "high-eye-in-the-sky" fun can provide endless entertainment and has some potential for profit. The Slow Stick must be the most popular camera platform ever. Easily carries the extra weight of a camera and is great for limited access takeoff and landing areas.

Note, you have to devise your own mechanical or electronic trigger to snap the photo. Velcro One-Wrap and top quality hardware included.

Configure your Slow Stick any way that suits you. Tricycle gear setups may prove desirable to provide the best protection for your camera. Parts to accomplish this are available in this category.

Schools and Universities: Science & Engineering classes interested in hands-on projects can consider a class project to obtain a student produced aerial photo as a combined lesson in engineering and project management. The school, local public works projects or even locally topical subject could be considered as the "Mission". Perhaps an infrared camera is available that could be used to photograph a neighborhood or school facilities on a cold winter day. The ensuing analysis of heat losses present endless opportunities for ongoing student projects and direction. The mission could be to study water runoff and retention during the high precipitation season. The number of fresh, new and exiting project ideas is without end. Combining science/engineering and construction of a UAV project with a real tangible result is certain to keep your students interested and engaged. An enlarged photo to display or publish your success can serve well to motivate the next group of students. Let us know if we can assist your curriculum in any way.

Old School Model Works Lark Kit

Trainer-like stability. Sport-Pattern performance. Quick and easy to build. What's not to love?!

Designed as a first low-wing trainer over five decades ago the Lark is still a terrific, everyday sport plane. OSM's version of the Lark keeps all of the iconic looks and great flying characteristics of the original. Plus, because it combines docile flight characteristics, trainer-like stability and an aptitude for super-smooth, exciting aerobatics, the Lark is just what you need to step forward with your flying ability.

OSM's kit has been designed to keep building time to a minimum and introduces new, simplified building features as well as laser-cut precision and self-aligning parts to make this all-time favorite even better. Building the wing and stab are a snap as all of the ribs include tabs which allow you to quickly and precisely align them on your building board. Did we say stab ribs? Why yes we did, as we integrated the original airfoil shaped stab into this design as well. The fuselage is built around a self-aligning, light-weight box for added strength. Surrounding this is the outer balsa skin that is strong, light-weight and twist resistant. Importantly, this balsa/ply airframe is uncomplicated, lightweight, easy to build, and features precision laser-cut parts that fit together quickly and accurately.

Power can come from glow or electric powerplants. We've designed the fuselage with a magnetic top hatch so you have quick access to either your fuel tank or batteries.

In the air, the Lark is an aerobatic, yet forgiving design that makes it the perfect entry-level low wing airplane. It's also great for experienced pilots because it packs a fully aerobatic capable design into a small package that can fit in the trunk of many cars, completely assembled.

When flying at slower speeds, it's a great way to relax, shoot touch-n-goes and enjoy low passes down the runway. But throttle it up and the Lark is just at home as an entry-level sport-pattern ship. Loop it. Roll it. Thrown in some Cuban 8's and even some hammerhead turns for fun and you'll enjoy every minute of it.
This Old School Model Work's Lark is a Vintage R/C Society legal design for enjoying vintage fly-ins and contests.

Features:
Premium USA Hardware Included in each Old School Model Works kit is a premium hardware package. OSM only sources their hardware from brand-name, USA manufacturers to guarantee the best quality.

Interlocking Construction There's nothing else like it. OSM's interlocking construction allows you to assemble the entire airframe with a minimum amount of fuss.

Front hatch Securely held in place with magnets, this hatch gives you easy access to batteries or fuel.

Build as Glow or Electric power Power the Lark with either a glow or electric powerplant.

VRCS legal kit OSM's Lark is a Vintage R/C Society qualifying design making it eligible for vintage/retro events.

The Mambo is different than any of our other kits in the fact that it's engineered from the get-go to be easy to build for the first time builder. Now don't confuse this with a trainer model, but rather it's aimed at modelers who are bored with their RTF trainer, or maybe those who have been flying for years and are looking to build a kit for the first time.

Using precision, laser-cut, interlocking parts along with our unique WEB-LOCK construction and built-in alignment jigs, the Mambo can be built straight and true - using a minimum parts count and a minimum amount of fuss.

Included in each Mambo kit are full-sized rolled plans, a printed construction manual, pre-bent main gear, and a premium hardware package from brand-name, USA manufacturers (DuBro, Sonic-Tronics, and others) to guarantee the best quality. Also included is a clear, pre-formed plastic canopy.

Power can be from either electric or glow. The fuselage has a large, built-in hatch, securely held in place with magnets giving you quick access to either your batteries or fuel tank.

Also, we've designed it to readily accept the powerplant, radio and other accessories from several popular RTF trainers, such as Horizon's Apprentice S® and 15e®. Simply remove their motor, ESC and radio from that kit and it an easily be used with our Mambo.

This all-around sport model's retro design looks great in the air and makes you look like an ace pilot. Loop it, roll it, spin it, snap it, and just have a great time flying it.

What's more is you can cover and finish your Mambo like you want, rather than being stuck with a "me-too" offering that look exactly the same as the others at your local field.

Whether you like gentle cruising, or prefer to tear up the sky, the Mambo's wide flight envelope makes it a blast to fly!

ArmSafe Arming Base White

The ArmSafe® Arming Base includes the parts for installing the Base into one RC model. Note that this Kit does NOT include an Arming Plug or wire. The body of the base is made with very tough UV stable black acetal. The user supplies the wire and shrink tubing as required. The base is very compact, it measures only 1.0" diameter x 0.55" deep, making it very easy to install into most RC models. Weight is only 6.3 grams.

The ArmSafe® System was created to improve the safety of electric RC models by giving the user better control of WHEN they energize and de-energize their models. This control can help reduce the risk of propeller strikes due to inadvertent motor starts. ArmSafe® is an effective solution for reducing, not eliminating, the risk of injury around high powered electric models. When ArmSafe® is CORRECTLY USED, the user has better control of WHEN they energize and de-energize their RC model. Uses Deans® Ultra Plug® Pat# 5,533,915. It was developed to have all the features RC modelers want:

1. High Current Rating
