Our Comet captures all of the jet-age looks and excitement of the sleek 1950's design it's based on. With the included jigs, this delta wing can easily be built by those with experience in constructing built-up kits. Did you ever get to see a Wright Flyer fly? Did you ever dream that someday you'd get to wiggle the wings on a Wright machine? I'm betting during all those many months of testing, planning, designing our famous Wrights went to bed wondering what it would be like. Then they did it. Now, you can do it. This conversion kit combined with the parts from two GWS Slow Stick slope glider kits (no longer available, discontinued by GWS) will produce a sport scale 1905 Wright Flyer. This model from the side view is scale having all the struts the original had. Omitted are all the flying wires and control cables. All the fiddly bits included on a perfect scale model (that break every time you land one) are gone. My intention was to design a model you could fly 10 times in a day if you liked and not once or twice a year for special occasions as you'd probably choose to do with a pure scale model.

How does it work? If you look close you can see our unobtrusive elevator servo (we used a GWS Pico) on the canard support strut. This servo drives the top canard which in turn, drives the bottom canard through a simple transfer rod. The canards move up and down together on thier own individual pivots like the original 1905 flyer. The rudder servo is adhered to the bottom of the bottom wing with a Dubro Micro Push rod (1/32 wire in clear plastic tube) driving the rudder. The rudder moves like the original 1905, both together. Perhaps the most exciting feature is this model flys with real wing warping. The outside wing strut assembly has a servo hidden under the bottom wing driving a diagonal rod that appears to be a simple bracing rod in the scale location. Forget the Eindecker like wings, wouldn't it be gross if this model didn't turn by real wing warping? You're going to love this feature every time you show how it works.
How does it fly? I was amazed, after some initial hiccups working out the right setup. We've refined CG and throws until it flies more or less like you'd expect a trainer to fly. It is a bit draggy so you tend to fly with a middle throttle position most of the time and you will want to be comfortable flying with both hands as this design likes rudder inputs. However, you'll soon agree it flies like a trainer. Provided in the kit is the CG you need along with servo horn lengths, control throws and even exactly where to trim the canard for that first flight.
How does it build? This is not a normal kit, it's mostly nut and bolting with some foam trimming and fitting here and there a little gluing and some finishing (staining). If like me, your favorite ever childhood toy was an Erector set, you're about to feel young again! Now I know you hated those square nuts and slot head screws (I did) so we included all hex wrench driven button heads and ny-lock nuts. There is a surprising amount of aircraft ply in this kit. The main structure starts out as a 24"x24" section of 1/8" thick air ply (cuts slower on a laser) and it's packed tightly with many parts. Needless to say, there is a lot of laser cutting time here. It has the longest hardware list of any kit we've ever designed and the longest instruction set I've ever written including several drawings/templates. Ron, who built both of our in-house prototype models said he needs 3 work days to complete one. So, please plan enough time, it's very important to us that you actually finish it and get it flying. I want to hear the joy in your voice and see the pride on your face when you tell me about it at the next show.
Whats included? All the hardware needed that isn't already in the Slow Stick kits is included here. All fasteners are good quality allen head bolts with lock nuts. There are 88 washers and you can guess how many nuts and bolts.
What do you need to complete? Add 2 motors (max 2oz, 800-1200 KV), 2 stick type motor mounts, 2 ESC's, APC counter rotating prop set, electronics (2 each 6 gram servos, 2 each 20oz torque servos (we used HB-65's), and 1 each 3S battery 1800-2200mah. Extensions and Y's. For motors under 1000 kv, use 10-4.7 props, 1000-1200 kv use 10-3.8 props.

Special notes about electric from Dave: This model makes an excellent electric conversion. My first large electric was one of these on 20 1750FAUP Cells. Yikes, I'd love to do another one with modern packs! Here is how I'd do it. Yes, this is same chart as the 4 Star 40, similar weight and wing area. An under recognized yet excellent electric conversion model. Good weight to wing area. A little troublesome to get large NiMH packs into due to the wing tube. However, with Lipo's it's super easy to fit the pack. Below are my suggestions for a range of practical power systems.

This kit makes use of basic 10mm square carbon, fiberglass or aluminum tubes. All of our 10mm boom based Slow Stick hopups such as servo mounts, battery tray's, gear mounts and etc.... are compatible with our Quad Coper Designers Kit.
By making use of different motor systems and different boom lengths, you can make a quad of any size you like up to 1 meter (39") frame OD. Our motor mounts are light enough for small outrunners and strong enough for even 28mm size outrunners. You can use this kit as the basis for your special project. The PowerBox PIK range of connectors exploits modern Hot-Melt technology to combine proven connector systems used in modelling applications.
All the joints in our cables are soldered on our premises, and subsequently checked by a second staff member for correct polarity and quality of workmanship. The connector is then placed in a specially made injection-moulding tool, in which it is encapsulated with a special plastic at a temperature of 220ºC and a pressure of 10 bar.
This process permanently seals the soldered joints as well as acting as a strain relief. Neither mechanical stress nor environmental influences - such as damp or heat - can have any adverse effect on this connection. The plastic we use is resistant to vibration, oxidation, acids, alkalis and fuels, and is temperature-resistant from -30ºC to +90ºC.
The cables we supply include types with different conductor cross-sections, adapters, charge leads and three-core servo leads. Cables with a cross-sectional area of up to 1.0mm have PVC insulation, while the 1.5mm and 2.5 mm types feature silicone insulation.

We can hand make pigtails to almost any specification. A "Pigtial" has a connector on only one end. Silicone 20 gauge are as heavy as you can get and have the added bonus of being very flexible and heat resistant. Use to repair servos, switch harnesses or perhaps add to existing servos for that "Extension Free" custom instalation. Choose from drop down menus your preferences. Generally we size these by measuring from the back of each connector. So the overall length will be greater by connector shell length. Twisted wire can be adjusted slightly in length by changing the number of twists. We try to get within about 1/2" of your spec. Please order long enough to compensate for minor variance.
10" machine made Silicone pigtails are available in our connector section at lower cost if they can meet your needs.
Note, for a happy life, get your sex right. Servo and battery ends are "MALE", RX's and Y harness receptacles are "FEMALE". When the pins are hidden, connectors are gendered by the shell. Just remember as an assembly, a servo plug fits inside an RX or Extension therefore it's male.
The PERS is a very tiny receiver-actuated on/off switch. It plugs into one of your receiver channels and lets you turn a device on/off using a stick, switch, or knob on your transmitter. The PERS performs the operation equivalent to a servo moving a mechanical switch back and forth, but in a much smaller package, and with no moving parts! The PERS will operate with any receiver running on 2-6V and can switch on/off pretty much any device up to 3A of current. The PERS is perfect for lights, glow plug drivers, motors, smoke pumps, rocket igniters, solenoids, relays, and whatever else you can think up. Wired correctly, it could be used to trigger cameras or other electronic devices. The PERS weighs just 0.3g, not including the 6" output wires (if left full-length these wires weigh another 0.3g).
If you don't mind doing a bit of soldering, the PERS can be easily reversed and assigned a fail-safe setting. The PERS was designed to use the power from your receiver battery, but it can also be configured to use a separate battery, up to 20V. PERS with 1.00mm servo connector for Spektrum AR6400 receivers
This model comes with a 1.00mm servo lead that will plug into the Spektrum AR6400 and any receiver with compatible connectors. The servo lead is 1" of 30AWG wire in JR colors. The PERS is ten times lighter than the AR6400 receiver so it won't noticably affect the weight of your model. In one of the images below you can see the PERS plugged into an AR6400 receiver controlling a high-brightness LED.
PERS with 1.25mm servo connector for Futaba R616FFM micro receivers
This model comes with a 1.25mm servo lead that will plug into the Futaba R616FFM receiver and any receiver with compatible connectors. The servo lead is 1" of 30AWG wire in Futaba colors. The PERS is 20 times lighter than the R616FFM receiver so it won't noticably affect the weight of your model.
PERS with 1.50mm servo connector for Spektrum AR6300 receivers
This model comes with a 1.50mm servo lead that will plug into the Spektrum AR6300 and any receiver with compatible connectors. The servo lead is 1" of 30AWG wire in JR colors. The PERS is six times lighter than the AR6300 receiver so it won't noticeably affect the weight of your model.

The DU-BRO Micro Push Rod System is a lightweight and easy-to-install control linkage designed for small to medium electric RC airplanes. It gives you smooth, accurate control while keeping the weight of your model as low as possible. This makes it perfect for foamies, indoor planes, park flyers, and small electric aerobatic models.
Each package includes two complete push rod systems, so you can set up two control surfaces--such as the elevator and rudder. Everything you need is included, and the parts are designed to work together for simple, clean installation.
Each set contains:
2 pushrods with a pre-bent 90? end, ready to use
2 pushrod housings that guide the rods and stop them from bending
2 Micro E/Z Links for attaching to your control horn
2 Mini E/Z Connectors for attaching to your servo arm and making easy adjustments
These components allow for smooth movement with very little friction. They also make it easy to fine-tune your control surfaces so your airplane responds the way you want it to.
The Micro Push Rod System is available in four different weights to fit a wide range of aircraft sizes:

Rod Stock Policy: In order to include long skinny products at our very favorable shipping rates: All USA orders that contain rod-stock items need to contain at least 6 rods. Rod stock is anything over 30". This would include Music Wire, Carbon Rods of any kind, larger Pushrod kits, brass or aluminum rods and anything else of that nature. Thinner items like carbon strips .5mm thick, sub 1mm diameter carbon rods and music wire .020 or thinner ordered in quantities less than 6 rods total will be shipped coiled. Unless otherwise stated, all carbon rod stock is pull-truded construction grade. The resin is heat cured as the fibers are pulled through a die of the proper shape. Sizes are approximate usually within 5%. Weight is in grams per meter, as per the manufacturer documentation, no guarantees on weight.
