Slow Stick Bipe Wing Strut Bushings

This bushing set allows you to build the hard points for mounting simple shaft type struts into your Slow Stick Biplane conversion wing panels. Made from 1/64" thick aircraft ply. Rods are not included. You can use carbon, fiberglass, aluminum or brass tubing as we did. I think lightly stained 1/8" wood dowel would look very trick as well; anything about 1/8" diameter. I choose the more antique look of the brass on my biplane. I wonder if my more period correct SS Biplane would qualify for Top Gun now?

Installing these hard points still allows you to use the wing panels on other monoplanes. The strut shafts are passed through the hard point with a section of glow fuel line pressed on the shaft and slid up against the hard point on both top and bottom.

Locate where you like, we put ours on the high point of the airfoil (about 2 3/4" back from leading edge) and in the middle of the second section of sagging cloth (what the wing shape simulates) as counted in from the wing tip. Mark these spots carefully, glue the teardrop shaped piece on top of each wing panel. Now, mount your wings on your airframe. We cut our rods to 10 1/2" as this seems to leave the right amount sticking through. By hand carefully cut or drill your 1/8" pass through hole for the rod. Now, slip two 1/4" long sections of fuel line about 1.5" onto each end of a strut shaft. Place a 1/4" ply washer on each shaft end followed by the oval washer. Now install the rod between the wing panels. Slide the oval washer up to the bottom of each wing (orient it span-wise) and glue in place. When this has set, glue the 1/4" washer in place over the oval washer. Glue in place the 1/4" washer on the top surface (on the teardrop). The rods are now held in place with two more sections of fuel line on the tip. Using the rods as a jig to align the strut bushings (hard-points) is a real help. As you can see the rods go through the wing at an angle because of dihedral.

BuzzBomb (400) Toon Buzzard Bombshell by Stevens AeroModel

The Stevens AeroModel BuzzBomb(TM) (400) is modern twist on the vintage free-flight classic Buzzard Bombshell - redesigned to build upon the flight qualities of the vintage Buzzard while modernizing the airframe to enhance performance for electric radio control flight. The Stevens AeroModel Buzz 400 is most at home flying eye-level sorties over the bean field or ball diamond - we dare you not to make motor noises as she passes by! The Buzz 400 also features a fantastic glide and retains energy well allowing it to soar well in light morning and evening lift. Slow enough to fly from the cul-de-sac yet big enough that it doesn't get lost at the club flying field, light enough to thermal with the best of them and tough enough to handle beginning pilots; we are confident that hobbyists of all experience levels will spend many enjoyable hours on the sticks of the Buzz 400.

Wright Stick Conversion Kit

Wright Stick Conversion Kit

Did you ever get to see a Wright Flyer fly? Did you ever dream that someday you'd get to wiggle the wings on a Wright machine? I'm betting during all those many months of testing, planning, designing our famous Wrights went to bed wondering what it would be like. Then they did it. Now, you can do it. This conversion kit combined with the parts from two GWS Slow Stick slope glider kits (no longer available, discontinued by GWS) will produce a sport scale 1905 Wright Flyer. This model from the side view is scale having all the struts the original had. Omitted are all the flying wires and control cables. All the fiddly bits included on a perfect scale model (that break every time you land one) are gone. My intention was to design a model you could fly 10 times in a day if you liked and not once or twice a year for special occasions as you'd probably choose to do with a pure scale model.

How does it work? If you look close you can see our unobtrusive elevator servo (we used a GWS Pico) on the canard support strut. This servo drives the top canard which in turn, drives the bottom canard through a simple transfer rod. The canards move up and down together on thier own individual pivots like the original 1905 flyer. The rudder servo is adhered to the bottom of the bottom wing with a Dubro Micro Push rod (1/32 wire in clear plastic tube) driving the rudder. The rudder moves like the original 1905, both together. Perhaps the most exciting feature is this model flys with real wing warping. The outside wing strut assembly has a servo hidden under the bottom wing driving a diagonal rod that appears to be a simple bracing rod in the scale location. Forget the Eindecker like wings, wouldn't it be gross if this model didn't turn by real wing warping? You're going to love this feature every time you show how it works.

How does it fly? I was amazed, after some initial hiccups working out the right setup. We've refined CG and throws until it flies more or less like you'd expect a trainer to fly. It is a bit draggy so you tend to fly with a middle throttle position most of the time and you will want to be comfortable flying with both hands as this design likes rudder inputs. However, you'll soon agree it flies like a trainer. Provided in the kit is the CG you need along with servo horn lengths, control throws and even exactly where to trim the canard for that first flight.

How does it build? This is not a normal kit, it's mostly nut and bolting with some foam trimming and fitting here and there a little gluing and some finishing (staining). If like me, your favorite ever childhood toy was an Erector set, you're about to feel young again! Now I know you hated those square nuts and slot head screws (I did) so we included all hex wrench driven button heads and ny-lock nuts. There is a surprising amount of aircraft ply in this kit. The main structure starts out as a 24"x24" section of 1/8" thick air ply (cuts slower on a laser) and it's packed tightly with many parts. Needless to say, there is a lot of laser cutting time here. It has the longest hardware list of any kit we've ever designed and the longest instruction set I've ever written including several drawings/templates. Ron, who built both of our in-house prototype models said he needs 3 work days to complete one. So, please plan enough time, it's very important to us that you actually finish it and get it flying. I want to hear the joy in your voice and see the pride on your face when you tell me about it at the next show.

Whats included? All the hardware needed that isn't already in the Slow Stick kits is included here. All fasteners are good quality allen head bolts with lock nuts. There are 88 washers and you can guess how many nuts and bolts.

What do you need to complete? Add 2 motors (max 2oz, 800-1200 KV), 2 stick type motor mounts, 2 ESC's, APC counter rotating prop set, electronics (2 each 6 gram servos, 2 each 20oz torque servos (we used HB-65's), and 1 each 3S battery 1800-2200mah. Extensions and Y's. For motors under 1000 kv, use 10-4.7 props, 1000-1200 kv use 10-3.8 props.

Sig Kadet LT-40

Sig Kadet LT-40

Like all Sig Kadets, the LT-40 behaves perfectly in flight, with true "hands off" stability on all axis. If the student pilot gets disoriented, simply let go of the control sticks and the LT-40 will recover itself and return to level flight within seconds.

Because the Kadet LT-40 is bigger than the average .40 size trainer, it has a much lighter wing loading, which lets it fly slower! Slower speed gives the student pilot more time to think and react to what the model is doing, thus making it easier to learn to fly R/C. Every major part of this kit has been pre-shaped, sawn, die-cut, laser-cut, routed, or whatever it takes to make it ready-to-install right out of the box.

Setups below would be my first picks depending on your purpose for the model. If your trying to learn or train a beginner, or just want a mild model with enough power to get out of trouble, pick setup around 1000 to 1400 foot per minute climb rate (fpm). An expert can do quite nice aerobatics on 1000 fpm, 1400 fpm and above is enough for first season pilots. Setups 2000 fpm and higher is agressive power.

Specifications:

Wingspan 770 in 1778 mm
Wing Area 900 sq in / 58 sq dm
Weight 5.5 - 6 lb 2494 - 2721g
Wing Loading 14 - 15.5 oz/sq.ft. 4272 - 4730 g/sq-m

Recommended Engines .30 - .40 cubic in (4.9 - 6.6 cubic cm) 2-Stroke
.40 - .50 cubic in (6.6 - 8.2 cubic cm) 4-stroke

Special notes about electric from Dave: This model makes an excellent electric conversion and is perhaps the most popular one of all time. Super light weight, large as or even larger than many 60 size trainers. For UAS purposes, the under wing compartment is 3" wide, 5 5/8" deep and 12 3/4" long.

Radical RC 1905 Wright Flyer Kit

Winner of "1st Place CD's Choice Award" Sunday July 8 at 2012 Mid America Electric Flies.

Thanks to Ken Myers and Keith Shaw for all the hard work on this event.

This kit is an outgrowth of our stand-way-off scale Wright Stick. These kits have flown with great success all over the world for years. Many have commented how cool it would be to have the correct color, wingspan and tip shape to make the kit even more scale like. One builder, Peter Sripol made his own Depron wings and flew his at SEFF in 2011. It flew very well and looked as controllable and gentle as the version based on Slow Stick wings. In 2012 there is a possible opportunity to fly at a famous Wright location. I wanted to have a model ready should that develop further. Also, I wanted a new and unique kit for Toledo this year, we decided now was the time. This machine has all the same struts as the original 1905 Wright Flyer. The 1905 was configured a couple different ways both prostrate and seated pilot and actually carried a passenger In 1908/1909 as the first military aircraft. It was the culmination of everything Wilbur and Orville had learned from the first 2 flyers. It has a longer tail and canard moment and was the first version that truly flew well. 2009 was the 100 year anniversary of Military flight. The flyer sold to the military was essentially the 1905 Wright model 3 with seating and control modifications. So, this is a 1905 or 1908 depending on what scale detail you add.

Our Wright Stick was historic in being the first ever sport type Wright Flyer. Our new stand off scale version follows all the same scale lines in all areas possible while still keeping the model simple and rugged.

This is our second open framework kit. We hope to produce a few more in this style. A Curtis Pusher is high on my list as is the Wright EX (Vin Fizz) or perhaps the Wright B Flyer. This is a kit and not an ARF. However it assembles more like an erector set. It will fly well and you'll certainly draw a crowd. I suggest you fly it over a grass field and 10mph wind or less. I've flown in as high as 16mph but less is certainly more fun.

Radical RC Stinger Quad Copter Kit

Our second Quad kit. This kit is characterized by all booms being on the same level. Construction is sandwich style. Motor mounts incorporate both our standard 1/16" bent wire gear and optional vertical leg 3/32" music wire or 2.5mm carbon rod (Secures easily with Dubro wheel collar). Un-bent wire is provided for the .062" bent wire option. This air frame kit is a little lower profile than the Quad Designers Kit and a slightly higher weight. Although, it's quite lite and sporty.

By making use of different motor systems and different boom lengths, you can make a quad of any size you like within reason. Our motor mounts are light enough for small outrunners and strong enough for even 28mm size outrunners. You can use this kit as the basis of many special projects. Kit is compatible with all our accessories and based on 10mm booms.

The center platform is 5" in diameter. Each motor mount surface is 1 9/16" (39.7mm) wide and on the same plane as the center component platform. All required parts are included to attach a battery pack mount on top or bottom of platform. Additionally for a clean look, mounts battery placement on bottom sandwich of center pod are provided for both X and + flying configuration. Mounts for auxiliary booms are provide if for example you wish to mount an orientation tail fin or place a gimbled camera on a boom between the motor booms. Wire for landing gear is provided. The gear is mounted on the motor mounts. A bending plan is provided. The kit may be configured for flying in either On-Axis (Cruciform or +) or Off Axis (Racecar or X) configuration.

What you get: All parts for center platform including main boom and auxiliary boom mounts, 4 motor mounts, battery straps, fasteners/stand offs, wire and bending plan for landing gear.

What you need to add: 10mm square arm material (GWS Slow Stick Boom Kits and woody options are listed here), 4 motors, 4 speed controls, stabilizer board of your choice, battery to match (usually 3S 1500-2100) and receiver.

Note, we don't offer control boards for multi rotors at this time. If you want to fly a Quad, you're going to have to figure all the electronics out for yourself. For now, we are offering air-frame kits and accessories.

4 Degree Extra Up/Down Motor Stick

Use this stick in conjunction with our other motor mount systems to alter the up/down thrust adjustment by 4 degrees. We made these stick because we built a twin tractor canard Slow Stick and in this configuration, you actually need a small amount of "UP" thrust to acheive good cruise to glide elevator trim settings. Our stock twin tractor motor mount adjusts from zero to -8 degrees (as most of our motor mounting systems do). This part changes the range of existing motor mount systems to "+4 to -4" or "-4 to -12" degree thrust line. Each Item is 2 motor sticks.

SQuiRT 400 by Stevens AeroModel

The Stevens AeroModel SQuiRT provides a solid platform for your student pilot to learn on. Speed 400 Primary Trainer for 3ch. Simple one evening construction allows you to get airborne quickly. Innovative shock absorbing gear and wing mounting system make crash damage exceptionally rare. In-fact, we have found this model to out perform any foamy in it's class in terms of flight performance and ruggedness. Rugged doesn't have to mean overweight as our 38" span Squirt weighs in at a lean 13.5-14oz with a 1500mah lipo and well under 16oz with a KAN 650 7 cell NIMH.

Thoughtful design and innovative beginner friendly features abound. Tab and notch construction makes building a straight and true wing and fuselage as easy as pouring as gluing your fingers together! The kit includes a full hardware pack loaded with high quality Du-Bro hardware, Wheels, Full-Size Plan Sheet, Pre-Bent Landing gear, a detailed step by step photo illustrated instruction manual, the kit even includes an excerpt on primary aerobatics derived under license from the RC Pilot Guide written by Scott M. Stoops.

Flying the Squirt is a great pleasure even in windy conditions that will send the other slow fliers packing. Additionally, the positive stability of this model allows the instructor to trim for level flight and hand over the controls to the student pilot. If the pilot looses control all that is necessary to regain control is reduce power and center the sticks - The Squirt will rapidly return to level flight!

Specifications:

  • Wing span 38 in.
  • Wing area 260 in.2
  • Flying Weight 15 oz.
  • 3-channel (RET)

Sig Kadet Senior

First attempts at R/C flying should be with an inherently stable model that flies slow enough to give the student pilot time to think and react. The Kadet Senior is the result of designer Claude McCullough's 50+years in the model airplane hobby. Everything about the Kadet Senior has been designed to make it the easiest to fly trainer in the world.

The"Hands Off" Trainer; High-wing configuration, large tail surfaces, and generous dihedral for true "hands off" stability. The Kadet Senior flies so slow and gentle that just about anyone can handle it on their very first try! If the student pilot gets confused, simply let go of the control sticks and the Kadet Senior will recover itself and return back to level flight. Flat-bottom airfoil, light weight construction, and a super light wing loading allow the Kadet Senior to cruise around at low speeds. All-balsa design with a strength-to-weight advantage that ARF trainers can't approach

Radical RC Mini Hunter

Radical RC Mini Hunter

I wanted a sport fan that would ROG on a decent surface and "sport" fly very well too. There are lots of cool fan models that require bungee launch or a pro pitcher to get them airborne. Also, most ducted fan models only do one thing well, "go fast". The Mini Hunter is something different. With the stock GWS EDF 40's she'll get off pavement in about 12 feet. So, on your club runway that's 400 feet+ long to accommodate turbines, you'll have no trouble taking off across the width of it. In fact, landing or taking off between 2nd base and the pitchers mound will be a breeze at the local ball park. When you get her airborne you'll find you have a very well behaved sport airplane with sharp looks and good aerobatic ability. If you can fly any of our "Stick" models, the Mini Hunter will be a snap for you. Landings are surprisingly slow. Flight times are good with the fans too. The fans are positioned to allow part of the airflow to go over the wing. This nets us a model that can still be fast if you want yet can slow down to make very slow fairly high alpha landings without worry of the tail surfaces or the ailerons quitting on you. You see, like a prop driven model, the control surfaces of this model are in the fan thrust airflow. Kit includes steerable nose gear and my special "Monkey Motion Un-mixer" to un-mix V tail off the tail servos to drive your nose gear steering pushrod. The kit's worth the price just to see how this monkey motion unmixer works! ;-) This is a true "V" tail design. We use magnetic push button wing release so battery change out is a breeze.

The Mini Hunter may also be powered with direct drive props if you like. Any two 12mm motors will fly it. For brushed use Twin 50XC motors. Remember, this model will get off in 12 feet, climb at 45 degrees or better, and is plenty quick with the brushed fans. You do not need brushless to have a cool model here, but we've got it to serve up to those wanting to build a monster.

Newest Power System? Another cool setup is twin 12mm 50XC 4.8V motors wired in series on 2 or 3S.

Specifications:
Finished weight 7.75-9 oz.
Wing span 23".
Wing area 132in. sq.
Length 19.5"

Build as 3 or 4 channels, requires 4 each .2oz or less servos, small RX like Berg Microstamp 4L RX, Castle Pixie 7 or GWS ICS300 for 40mm fans (yes one esc drives both motors for brushed). Twin Castle TBird 9's for twin brushless fans on 3-3 props. Use a high discharge pack, weight budget for the battery will accommodate 2S 640 to 3S 1000.

International shipping note: box size is 24 inches long and approximately 16oz. weight.

Old School Model Works Raider "Pirate Stik" Kit

Our Raider is not just another Stik. It's a Stik with options!

The year was 1965. Phil Kraft, the man behind Kraft radios, needed a model that was quick and easy-to-build as a testbed for his radios. Little did he know he would design one of the most renowned models of all time - the Ugly Stik. Our Raider is part of our new Pirate Stik line, and it's based on Phil's proven design - with the same dimensions, airfoil, and great flying characteristics.

We have completely updated the airframe with laser-cut and self-aligning parts - we even include a wing jig to help you easily build both wing halves. The fuselage is built around a self-aligning, light-weight box for added strength. Surrounding this is the outer balsa skin, which is strong, lightweight, and twist-resistant even when performing high-stress maneuvers. The balsa/ply airframe makes the Raider an uncomplicated, lightweight, and easy-to-build aerobat.

The wing is removable, giving access to the extra-large cabin area. From there, you have easy access to install most any brand of radio and control linkages. We've also designed in a large hatch that covers the spacious battery/tank compartment.

What's more, you have options right out of the box.

  • Power it with Glow, Gas, or Electric.
  • Ailerons and elevator can have Straight or traditional Scalloped edges.
  • Make it a Tri-cycle or Tail-Dragger.
  • You can even incorporate Flaps for even slower flight.

The best way to describe the Raider in the air is wide-ranging. With low throws and power, it can easily be used as an intermediate trainer. With average throws and power, it becomes a great every-day sport airplane. And with higher power and throws, the Raider becomes a great fun-fly machine, even capable of some precision aerobatics in the hands of an experienced pilot.

Our Old School Model Work's Raider is a Senior Pattern Association and Vintage R/C Society legal design for vintage and retro pattern competitions.

Sig Kadet Seniorita

This compact version of the KADET SENIORITA is designed for modelers who have a small car or apartment-size workshop. The SENIORITA features the same forgiving flight characteristics of the larger SENIOR, but in a smaller package.

Wing Mounted Main Gear Mount Kit

Wing Mounted Main Gear Mount Kit

Warbird Main Gear Mount. Most any WWII Theme model you build will need the main gear mounted to the wing in order to look right. (Can you believe what I'm suggesting? ;-) ) Shown here used on our shop Wart Hog theme model.

Like many of our parts, this one may be reconfigured easly by simply flipping parts for tail dragger or tricycle configuration. Tricycle shown. 3/32 Music wire (Part# KS506) was bent to shape, bend any height you want. Wire may come down from inside or outside edge of mount to allow for a variety of gear widths depending on the look your going for. Suggest wheels collars Part # DUB138 to hold your wheels on.

The Slow Stick wings and glass fiber rods support both front and back where we have it banded on in the photo. Takes landing loads quite well. The look generated along with your likely use of low wing moutning set and aileron kit (both available in this category) will have everybody thinking you must be flying some new just released super model.

Sig Kadet LT-25

Sig Kadet LT-25

The Sig Kadet LT-40 has become the R/C trainer of choice at many club fields. Not long after it's introduction, we started getting requests for a smaller version of the same airplane. So here it is - a compact version of the LT-40 - the new Sig Kadet LT-25. When price shopping this kit, be sure you understand our super low flat rate shipping means total cost to your door is probably the lowest on the planet.

"The R/C Trainer That's All Laser Cut", As you would expect, the new LT-25 inherits all the same gentle flying characteristics of the other legendary Sig Kadets. It has the same light wing loading, which allows it to fly slow enough to give the student pilot time to think and react. It has the same "hands off" stability on all axis. If the student pilot gets disorientated, simply let go of the sticks and the LT-25 will recover and return to level flight within seconds.

Specifications:
