Streamline tubing, sometimes called airfoil or aero tubing, has an elongated cross section that cuts through the air with less drag than a round tube of the same width. Modelers reach for it on parts exposed to the airflow, such as struts and landing gear legs, where a cleaner shape is worth the extra effort.
Sizes and Materials
This category carries K & S streamline stock in two metals. The aluminum lengths run 35 inches long in outside diameters of 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 1/2, and 5/8 inch, giving a range of sections to match the load and scale of a project. A 1/4 inch brass length with a 0.014 inch wall is offered in a 12 inch cut for smaller work or where a solderable metal is preferred.
Choosing between the two usually comes down to weight and joining method, since aluminum is light and easy to shape while brass takes solder readily.
