An all around low-wing sport model based off a 1970's classic.
The Sky Ranger 40 is as much fun to build as it is to fly. Using updated design techniques and laser-cut precision, we've designed this kit so most any modeler can successfully assemble it in a short amount of time.
This all-around sport model's retro design looks great in the air and makes you look like an ace pilot. Loop it, roll it, spin it, snap it, and just have a great time flying it.
Power the Sky Ranger 40 with either an electric or glow powerplant. We've designed the fuselage with a built-in hatch so you have quick access to either your LiPo batteries or fuel tank.

The stock factory tail wheel setup on a slow stick is weak. Use this light weight mounting block to build a steerable tail wheel mount. Bend your wire gear out of .055 music wire (Part # KS503) and your all set. Notice in the photo how simply we connected ours to the rudder pushrod. What? No glow line in the field box? We've got that material also. Combine with a .063 (1/16") wheel collar (Part # DUB137)to lock the wire in place (works like our nose gear retainer) and your all set.
Notice the bending pattern (non critical) that we are setting it up so the elevator is 1.5-2" off the ground. The idea is to leave a little range for shock absorbsion so you don't strip a servo gear if you smack the tail. It's not only about having stearing. ;-)

Estimates based on manufacturers provided constants using E-Calc. High Quality 2100-3000mah used as trial cell in calculations. Presumed model weight of 76oz. @3 cells (added oz for higher cell counts). Actual performance may vary depending on components used, accuracy of data as provided by manufacturer, quality of battery, ESC, and many other factors.
This material shrinks easily with your covering shrink gun, lighter or other heat source. After shrinking, this higher quality tube stays flexible keeping your strain relief plans intact. Shrinks about 50%. 1/16 and 3/32 sizes are most popular for individual servo and park flier pack wires. 1/8" for strain relief on 2 pole 22 gauge battery pack wire, larger sizes for larger wire. Shown at right is 3/8" for locking together servo connectors you won't be able to easily inspect later. Measurement is inside diameter. Very economical to keep plenty of this material on hand. You'll find many uses, we even use the smallest size for wheel collars on some of our kits! Hint:In a pinch? Short sections of tubing can be opened up 25% to 50% larger with hemostats or fine needle nose pliers Sold in multiples of 3' lengths.
Y harness. 10" long. Use to run two servos off one channel output on RX. JR connector style, 26 gauge Standard duty wire, gold connector pins. SKU Number: RRCYSTDJR
We packed as much brute power and intelligence into this tiny layout as we possibly could and came up with a 15 amp* controller with ability to sustain an 8 amp BEC! Talon 15 measures just 1.1" long and is under 0.6" wide! At nearly the size of a quarter, this ESC supports an outlandish 8 amp** peak BEC with output voltage of 5.5 VDC. Applications range from foamies to micro and sub-micro helis running up to 4S and pulling 15 amps. As with any Castle ESC, the Talon 15 offers Castle's industry-leading functions, not to mention easy programming using the Castle Link USB adapter (coupon for free Castle Link included), or the Castle Field Link Portable Programmer (sold separately).
Notes from Dave: This is a world beater ESC. Now we can run high voltages in our smaller models with a small tight ESC from a quality manufacturer. I'm very excited to put one of these in my 5S, 16 ounce Stick 400. Sweet!
Input Voltage: 2-4 Lipo Max Continuous Amperage: 15* BEC Voltage: 5.5v BEC Amperage: 3 Continuous, 8 Surge** Switching Rate 7,000 Hz Resistance 0.0065 Ohms Brake yes, programmable Reversible yes - change any two wires Size .058 x 1.1 x 0.32 in. Weight (w/wires) 0.25 oz. (7.2g) Universal connector
*RC HOBBY APPLICATION RATING: 15 amps for the duration of a single 4,000 mAh battery pack with the ESC in contact with a 5 mph airflow of 25C (77F) or cooler air. Controller temperature must never exceed 100C (212F). Exceeding current or temperature ratings may damage components and may shorten the life of the ESC. Always verify system current draw at full-throttle. Decrease load or increase airflow to decrease the ESC's operating temperature.
**Peak indicates amperage sustainable for most servos' current draw transients. Always confirm servo current draw before the first flight of the model.
Tidy up and protect your servo wire. 10mm fits over servo cables. Works like Chinese finger cuffs, push ends toward center of piece to open up to insert wiring. Very nice for heli applications, keeps wires from straying and protects from friction damage. 3-foot packs available in Orange & Yellow. See other listings for color and size options.
Solder Kwik-Links are nickel plated making a strong, attractive and easy to solder connector for servo or horn. 4-40 Solder Kwik-Link designed solder onto .093 diameter wire which is typical size found with rolled 4-40 threads on one end. We can hand make Y harnesses to almost any specification. Our 20 gauge silicone Y harnesses are as heavy as they get. Great where heat is a problem or very high servo loads are expected. Use these special harnesses to reduce the connectors (and resistance) in your electrical system. Also, there is nothing like a tidy radio compartment and a proper length harness can help you get there. Use the drop down menus to indicate your preferences. Generally we size these by measuring from the back of each connector. So the overall length will be greater by connector shell length.
Twisted wire can be adjusted slightly in length by changing the number of twists. We try to get within about 1/2" of your spec. Please order long enough to compensate for minor variance.
Note: Stock machine made sizes and are lower cost and can suit many needs, find them in the connector category to fit your specific brand.
KEY: Think of a 1 legged stick man, the RX connector is the "Leg" and each side of the "Y" that connects to a servo is an "Arm". Our part number for you special Y reads as such if you prefer to mail in your order: CYSIL__L("leg)__A("Arm)__A("Arm).
Fasteners, Bracket and drive spring included. Intended to be driven by rudder through spring. Drawing and instructions included. Can be set up as castoring or steering. Choice of 2 different steering springs. Absorbs shocks so loads are not delivered directly to your servo gears. 1/8" (3.2mm) spring axle. Wheel and wheel collars not included. Example photo from Sullivan is of smaller wire size gear. Actual product is much stronger. SKU Number: SUL862
Use with Hitec X-Series (X2,X4,X4 Eighty, X4+ etc...) chargers and probably many other chargers that have Temp Sensor capability. Uses 3 wire servo input connector setup. Allows charger to use temp information for peak charging or other purposes. SKU Number: HRC44159

We can hand make pigtails to almost any specification. A "pigtail" is a wire with only one connector. Use to repair servos, switch harnesses or perhaps add to existing servos for that "Extension Free" custom installation. Choose from drop down menus your preferences. Generally we size these by measuring from the back of each connector. So the overall length will be greater by connector shell length. Twisted wire can be adjusted slightly in length by changing the number of twists. We try to get within about 1/2" of your spec. Please order long enough to compensate for minor variance.
Note: 2 wire battery pigtails in 6", 3 wire pigtails 10" and Micro Lite at 5" are available in machine made sizes and at lower cost, find them in the connector category to fit your specific brand. Check there first to see if any stock sizes will meet your needs.
Micro Lite: This type of wire is used most commonly in applications with small servos (.5 oz weight or less usually) in park flyers, foamies, sailplanes, DLG's and other models with low servo loads. You can save a bunch of weight eliminting beefy stock wiring from these smaller models.
26 Gauge Standard: This wire is what you find in most new radio sets and on most mid size to full size standard torque 4 screw mountable servos. This ribbon wire size is a good wire choice for those types of servos (and smaller) if the runs are 24" or less. Good for smaller servos in long runs such as sailplane wings and similar. For example, great for you 60" cub but use 2o gauge your outfitting a 100" Cub.
22 Gauge Heavy Duty: Use for all larger models and anyplace a high torque or digital servo might be used. Use for standard torque servos if your runs are very long (over 24")
Sometimes it's hard to tell the boys from the girls. Servo and battery ends are "MALE", RX's and Y harness receptacles are "FEMALE". When the pins are hidden, connectors are gendered by the shell. Just remember as an "assembly", a servo or battery plug fits inside an RX or Extension therefore it's male.
Hitec Feather servo control horns. White nylon material. These horns have holes correct for 1/32 wire used in all the smallest servos. Will fit only Hitec 50 and 55 servos. See images for Hitec's diagram and chart.
